Hello, Tariffs! aka Weight-loss for Wallets

This is exactly what my fabric business needs!  Just as we begin to see some profit that doesn't need to go right back into more inventory, we now have to navigate tariffs! Oh, joy! (If you missed the sarcasm, I'm truly sorry.)

For my American customers, I do apologize. I guess it's not really my fault, but we Canadians are good at apologizing for things that aren't actually our problem. Side note: it's a stereotype, but actually a pretty accurate one.
If you are someone who brings in fabric from Canada, your prices in USD will now look something like this... instead of $8-11/meter, you will be paying $10-13/meter. Its not going to show up when you make your purchase on my website, but when it comes across the border, you get to pay an extra 25% of the purchase price. Exciting, isnt it? 😏 It would be less per yard, since meters are a good 3 inches longer than a yard, but that gives you a rough estimate. I will understand if you stick close to home for your fabrics!

Thank goodness you guys have all the nice fabric. We Canadians love to visit your fabric stores because they often have the prints that ours don't. Although I've discovered that works both ways...why is it that the fabric on the other side of the border always looks greener? 🤔

If you are Canadian, you might see the already expensive fabric at the stores you love to shop at jump in price. If you see new fabrics here with what appears to be outrageous price stickers, thank the tariffs! That's them, making sure your wallet stays nice and slim.

On a slightly different note, while we might complain about high living costs and not being able to afford everything we would like, is it maybe borderline petty to do so? Have you ever made a list of everything you need? Just the things you NEED for living. Not the things you need to keep up with the Martin's whose vehicle is beside yours in the church parking lot. Most of us can stretch our nickels to cover those costs and probably have a little bit leftover. We don't NEED cream cheese, or guacamole, or soft drinks. We might not even need a new dress for each of the 5 weddings we are invited to this summer. (I know, I'm shooting myself in the foot.) My point is, we don't think about how much we have and how high our standard of living is. If you are blessed enough to be able to afford the extras we often think of as needs, even as prices keep rising, enjoy them and thank the Lord for them! If you need to watch your budget a little more closely and maybe cut out a few things every now again to help make the money reach a little further, enjoy what you have and thank the Lord for it! Most of us have communities, churches, families and neighbors who are there to help us if we are in dire need, and few of us are in dire need. Dire want maybe, but not dire need. Having slimmer wallets might be hard on the pride, (we'd like a slimmer waist instead) but that doesn't usually hurt any of us. After all, it's just money. It's not worth a whole lot in heaven.
