Of Florals and Fabrics

Planning weddings can be stressful. Eloping starts to look appealing. Or at least it did for me.

Yesterday, I ordered flowers for a friend's wedding. It's been 3 years since I last did flowers for a wedding and I'm rather excited to do some again! I refuse to do a brides bouquet, because I think you should go to a professional for that. Someone who can size the bouquet to you. Bridesmaid bouquets, boutonnieres, centerpieces, backdrop florals... I'll do all that though! That was one thing I did for my own wedding. It was delightful, letting everyone else stress over the other things while I fiddled with flowers. 😀

But I'm getting sidetracked... the purpose of this post was to give a rundown of how we do fabrics for a wedding! That's another important thing at weddings. Right up there with the florals. You need a bride and groom, a preacher, pretty flowers and fabric for clothes. Oh, and a witness or 2. That's all you really need.
If you have a wedding this year, and are hoping for custom designed fabrics and to order in the exact shade of blue that you wanted for your wedding, you came to the right place! We have stacks of samples, and I mean literal stacks. There's sublimation fabrics that we can print your designs on... many more choices than last year's brides had. (I'm sorry I didn't have more choices last year, but I'm happy there's newer and improved versions now!) There's every colour of the rainbow in endless fabric types, textures or embossed patterns. It really can be overwhelming, but if you faint at the sight of all the options, I'll do my best to provide smelling salts and bring you around again.
Curating fabrics special for a wedding is so much fun. Not quite as much fun as the flowers, but still enjoyable. If you want your own special design for a fabric, you can either choose from the dozens we have on file, or work with a designer to get your own done! Design fee is $15 and that is for a design that is yours alone. It will only be printed for your wedding. If you choose from the ones we have on file but you dont want us to ever print it again, then you pay $10 for that design. If you don't care if we print the design and sell it, then you will be charged $0.50/meter ordered. That is calculated into your cost per meter.
Which brings me to the next thing. Prices. The price list for fabrics will be updated in the next week or so. Some prices have dropped, others went up and there are quite a few new fabric options that need added. For the most part though, you can expect to pay anywhere from $13-16/meter. Solids can sometimes be less, depending on the fabric and the amount you order.
One other thing. If your fabric arrives and it is not at all what you wanted, you can send it back. If it was shipped, you need to pay the cost of shipping it back to me. The fabric cost is refunded to you once the fabric arrives. This has only happened once, and that was due to me not double checking the design after the designer had sent it, but it can happen, so it's wise to order fabric early, at least if you are getting a design printed!
Whether you order fabric from me or not, I hope your wedding planning goes smoothly! If it doesn't, don't panic too badly. Getting married and spending your life with someone is the important part, so make sure you don't forget about that. Because the flowers will eventually wilt and the fabric rip, fade or snag, but as long as you have your better half, it really doesn't matter all that much.
